Listen to me man, I said the magic word. Is there going to be a mapping contest for 2013? Maybe?

If not, just organise a competition with no prizes.

If a contest was announced what prizes would you want?

Also, why do you want a contest? A place to show your abilities in mapping or just for the "end"?

The prizes don't really matter to me, but I'd like to see what lots of different people did with a set contest theme, and a deadline might get me to actually release something.

Experience has taught me that people are more motivated when there is a prize to be had, even if it not guaranteed; but offer nothing, and that what you will get.

Also, you didn't answer my question.

I don't think that there's ever really a theme, though it would prove interesting if there was..

On-topic: I second the motion, I'd love to see a contest soon. But I guess these things don't just grow on trees.

Wouldnt a theme just dampen creativity? Also, you didn't answer my question.

The previous contests have had themes. The first was to do something new without any custom content, the second was to get something built and styled within a short time limit, and the mAI one was to use as much custom content as possible while still fitting into Portal 2.

For prizes...the coolest thing would be if we could get VALVe to give out something, like mAI did, but I don't know if that's possible.

It would be cool, when the contest gives numbers, how many Brushes, entities, Worldbrushes etc. you are allowed to use in your map ^^ Or how many ambient generics, or static/dynamic models, ^^

That would be very interesting

That's probably too much details for the mappers that make a map once a year for the contset. (Though I don't think it's a good idea either).

Nope. This would highly limit the styles used. basically clean maps would be able to get much much bigger than destroyed maps. Those use a lot more models and brushes for example.

One of my problems is that I have 3 puzzles that in my point of view are great puzzles that I've never done anything like them, but I am quite a slow mapper.

I'd love to see a contest this year, even if there are not as many Portal 2 mappers as there used to be.

If there's going to be another contest, I hope this time the winning map won't be an overgrown map which has four puzzles where the 1st one of them is about using one element to travel around the bend, the 2nd one is motion puzzle based on timing and the 3rd one is a complex puzzle involving lasers.

(Sorry Pitkakorva, I had to do it )

Why, because "Patient Pending" had the same idea?

Contest probability is pretty high...
