Every time I play portal 2 it crashes after A while. All other steam and source games are fine. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is it after loading a custom map or the campaign? or does it crash randomly even if you keep yourself in the main menu?

How much time has passed since the last time you played it? maybe you need to update it? ... or to update your graphics card drivers...

It happens when alot is happening on screen. If I leave it on the main menu it wont crash but if I am doing a really fast paced map it crashes. It only started happening recently It didn't used to do this.

If this doesn't happen with the rest of your games, then I doubt it's your graphics card the cause. Have you tried verifying your game's local files? Maybe some got corrupted.

Maybe it's because of downloading maps? If yes, that's normal. You should quit Portal 2 if you're downloading or downloaded a lot of maps.

Hey,

What do you mean by "crash." Does Portal 2 crash, or the entire computer? Also, are you having this issue with other source based games like TF2 or HL2? It may be worth checking for further troubleshooting.

Goodluck solving the issue!

I mean the Whole computer crashes. I am not having problems with any other source games just portal 2.
And I only rarely download maps from the workshop so it's not that.

The whole computer? that sounds like your problem is your computer's power supply. Have you got a different one to swap them and test?

Okay follow up question,

When the computer reboots do you see the data recovery page? Also, what is the tempature of your GPU around the time your computer crashes? This sounds kind of like an issue I've been having for nearly a year now.

If you are going to the data recovery page and the computer is overheating I can recommend two things:

  1. If the computer is overheating try dusting out the inside of the computer. The dust can act as a blanket keeping the fan from cooling it down. The computer crashes itself to prevent long term damage from a overheated graphics card.

  2. If it is not overheating, and you have EVERYTHING backed up that you want and need, reinstall windows. The software running the card may be partly corrupt.

I hope that helps you out!
