I know all about art, as I minored in art history in undergraduate.

However, I am having a terrible night at the hospital, dealing with parents who beat the crap out of their baby. It's truly disgusting.

Split this thread off. It's interesting to hear your stories, satchmo, but ultimately off-topic. -Hober

Horrible! How could parents be so mean to a child?

Unfortunately, it happens more often than we like to think.

There was a father who kicked his four-year-old girl to death. Another mom who hung her boy naked upside down and whipped him with a belt buckle until he started having seizures.

I had to testify in court for those cases.

Is that why your profile picture is the medic?

I am a doctor after all, so my avatar is always the Medic from TF2.

Ironically, I usually play the Scout or the Engineer in TF2. I suck as a virtual Medic.

Was that necessary? He's talking about things that he sees in his life, because it came up.

How did it come up? If we just put things that come up in our lives at the end of posts like footnotes, isn't THAT the unnecessary thing.

Dog just walked past the window and did a MASSIVE turd on my neighbors lawn. Still not as nasty as satchmos day, but pretty nasty.

iWork that was kinda insensitive, even if it was a bit off topic.

Not my lawn, I don't care. Any satchmo is more insensetive by subjecting me to such perverted material on a mapping forum.

not sure where all this originated from.. but now i get to chime in...
As a father, and someone who has taken care of kids even when he was a kid himself, I hate hearing shit like this...
What is even worse is how it gets treated in the legal system sometimes. I work for the State Prison here.. I'm currently an Officer (been so for the last 10 years or so) but I started out in administration. One of the jobs I had was typing up "Travel Cards" basically what that means is we take all the "rap sheet" info we get form the County when an inmate is transferred to us (from county jail to state prison) and convert it to our cards and computer system. So I'm typing up a stack of these and I type up one that is one count of "Possession of a controlled substance with intent to sale." Basically just a dope dealer... I can't stand drugs, people who do drugs, or people who sale drugs, HOWEVER This is just some dude selling shit people want, to people who want it. 40 years.
THE VERY NEXT card I typed up was for a guy who had 2 counts of indecency with a child with contact... Basically a child rapist.... KILLING a child's innocence. 10 years.

I was appalled and disgusted.

I testified in court as an expert witness to put a mother away for 20 years.

I will probably do that again for this dad who beat up his six-month-old daughter.

However, I do have an uplifting story.

A mom walked into the ER with her son. She was basically surrendering her parental custody because she sensed that she was losing her mind and she might hurt her son.

She was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the boy went to live with his father.

Imagine her courage to go to the ER, knowing that she may lose her rights to be a mother.

"Help me, doctor. Protect my son from me."

Schizophrenia is perhaps the most serious and devastating mental illness, but at the end, a mother's love won.

Update: I found out that the father confessed leaving the baby home alone unattended for half an hour while he went out with friends. When he returned, he found a huge speaker had fallen onto the baby, smashing the baby's head.

So I guess he did not beat the baby up, but he proved himself a negligent parent.

He shall never see the baby again.

What brought all this up? First thing I'm watching My Little Pony (which is odd enough), and next I'm reading about abusive parents with schizophrenia beating their children to death on a Portal 2 mapping forum.

WHAT HAS THIS INTERNET COME TO.

It was originally a tangent in another thread (mine, I believe) that got out of hand, and a mod moved it here so as not tom clutter the thread. Also, down with 'bronies'.
