what's the difference between a weapon and a weaponizer?

When I saw this, I imagined it would be some new and innovative weapon for a game, like what the gravity gun did in HL2. Of course, this is just somewhat baseless speculation, but I'm guessing it would be a weapon with three different modes, each capable of manipulating different environmental obstacles and firing them as projectiles. Again, that's all just guessing.

Why would you possibly expect HL3? HL2 is all about the conflict with the combine, so in ep3 that threat needs to be resolved before they continue a new conflict. (This is how all good games work)

A third episode to HL2 suggests that it would run on the Source 2007 engine as opposed to the Portal 2 engine, or at least use many of the same assets from Source 2007 so that really the only significant improvement the game gets from switching to the Portal 2 engine is game performance and framerate. It would still be following an episodic format where the episodes cost less and are supposed to be released much more frequently than a full-fledged third game. Obviously we haven't been getting the HL2 episodes at the rate that is supposed to come of episodic games, so we just spend a few less dollars on the the episode and it's a third the length of an actual new game.

With a whole new game, HL3, it would make a whole lot more sense for it to run on the Portal 2 engine, yet another improved iteration of Source, or a brand-new engine all together. Just because the game is a sequel to HL2 doesn't mean it can't continue right where episode 2 left off. And HL3, as a full game, would be significantly longer than just another episode. Plus, it could have more gameplay modes than a third episode to the existing game, like online play (legit, not more HL2 Deathmatch) and leaderboards. Considering how long it has taken them at this point, Valve most likely has decided to scrap the episodic format and make what was previously episode 3 into a full Half-Life 3.

These codes remind me of the ep3 codes found in Alien Swarm.

Episode 1 didn't run on the 2007 engine; it was built specifically for Episode 2. Why would they not use the most up-to-date one?

I think the actual naming of the game would really just be a formality. They did say from the start though, that the episodic releases were meant to be a trilogy.

What i meant was i am expecting Source Engine 2.0

Valve had already said that they will keep releasing in episodic format and the ending of ep2 directly suggested there was going to be ep3. If Valve is supposed to release ep3 it would have been released by now. And there is not a word about the next Half Life till now. That could mean they could have scrapped the episodic format and been working on a full game.

In the developer commentary of ep2 they did say they stole some ideas of ep3 and incorporated into ep2(like the sentinel dropping bombs which we threw right back at it with the grav gun). That could be a reason for the delay but not so much of a delay(4 yrs!!)

Going back to my previous comment , maybe Valve started working (they did) on ep3 and the project became so large that it would have been difficult to change package names (ep3 to hl3).
Maybe there is still hope.

I certainly hope for that, but I still think the likelihood of HL3 is slim at best.

I don't hope for EP3 yet because, as I said, the combine conflict needs to be resolved.

when Source Engine was released in 2004 it blew every other game engine at that time.
If Source Engine 2 releases will it blow away others(CryEngine 3 , Frostbite 2 , Unreal)
What would it be like?

That would be the greatest thing ever and Valve should do it... and update Hammer. Even though hammer is so easy to use now. No, never mind. Update the engine, not hammer

The Source engine still has one of the best physics simulation and water effect, even in today's standard.

Yes. If they incorporated their texture detail and engine capacity updates from Portal 2 into episode 3, it would look so much better than the previous games (not that ep2 didn't look really really good)
