Looks like Democracy has Ruled Again: It shall be Portals.

By the way, rating currently works (though you can rate multiple times if you refresh the page...shhhh), I just need to make the images more interactive.

Whoops. Guess my post in the other thread is null and void then if the decision's already been made.

A little late to the party, but I voted indicators. It fits with the panel theme we've already got going.

I am strategically re-voting to "depends on map type". this way, cake can STILL win.

I am genius.

You also created a stalemate.

Regardless I think the voting passed already, so any input now won't do much. It's prolly going to be Portals.

HOWEVER, I suggest for featured maps (also, we doing featured maps?) that we have a little cake icon appear over the thumbnail. Basically the test approved icon i've seen floating about with a cake in it. That way we have a cake and relevant rating icons to both games.

I think the test approved icon was what we were going to use for featured maps/mods, no cakes about it.

Sorry, cake lost to the entire point of the game.

Cake is powerful, yes, but without Portals Cake would not exist in such a powerful form.

Therefore Portals.

I beg to differ.

Cake was the main goal of the most popular game of my youth. It played the most important part in the most famous game icon ever's first game.

Need I say more?

You don't, but I do. SM64 was NOT the first Mario game. It was the first 3D Mario game.

Second off, the cake is mentioned twice: Once at the very beginning as a (now thinking on it funny) excuse for Mario to be coming to her castle, and at the very end when the entire deal is won and he can finally eat it.

In Portal, it's brought up a lot more, used as incentive to get you back into the chambers multiple times and finally is shown at the end to actually exist. It's part of Portal's lore. It's not part of Mario's lore.

Besides, if you'd ask anyone about a video game where cake was an important factor that came up a lot, Portal would be the winner.

And don't even try to drag Minecraft into this because we all know Minecraft's cake was A. suggested by you and B. was inspired by Portal, which btw proves my point.

I was like 5, so yes. I did.

But they don't give any other reason (that's not even implied...ever) so I find it hilarious that that's the only reason he came was for food. He's like Kirby in that aspect. XP

Fair enough. I first played the DS remake of it when I was rather older than 5, so unfortunately I already knew about Rule 34.

I played the original, and loved every second of it

Another favorite game of mine was Donkey Kong 64.

Regardless of lore, cake was used in there first as an incentive. it may have been subtle, yes. but it was always there. and was the final screen of the game.

Public opinion is irrelevant to arguments of logic

That is totally a lie. that statement, not the cake.

For one, it was my "friends" who asked. I clearly asked on behalf of them. this is totally a true thing that happened.
For two, who knows if they knew of portal at all???????? no-one, that's who. so oh well.

I know this is 'innocent' discussion and that there's no inherent harm in it, but let's steer ourselves away from this tangent.

I vote for a recount of votes! I call voter fraud!

as I am a constituent of the forum, I demand a recount, or I shall vote against anyone supporting portals in the next election!

(off topic:for something sealed off forever, old!aperture seemed easy to reopen.)
