I've been aggressively bothering the mods and admins about this for a few weeks because I don't want to start working on a new map, and then have to reboot everything when the contest is announced...

Well, technically, it is rather baseless, he said there will be an "event" soon. This doesn't mean contest. You just kind of assumed it was a contest by blurting out, "OMG IT'S ANOTHER CONTEST!" An event could be anything from a contest to a site update to something as simplistic as a new logo. (I'm not saying any of those are/aren't gong to happen) To be honest I'd love to see a new contest pop up. I have an idea floating around in my head for a map that I'd like to get out of the pen and paper stage but I'm saving it for a contest.
