Although Portal has been here for almost 5 years now, and obsolete by Portal 2, we still love it! Please post any works you are doing/have done in the original Portal. This is also here because people like Sven and I want one.

Please avoid posting full Portal 2 ports into Portal. If you want to map for Portal 2, map for Portal 2. However, somethings can be allowed like things like this...

It's never too late to map for the original. I can tell you that its a lot easier in most cases.

I love the backport, as I said before.

I might remake some of my p2 maps as p1 maps, and since most of them use p2 elements i'd need to make some kind of sub for p1. Would be interesting indeed...

At least some of the laser puzzles can be replaced with ye olde Energy Pellet. As for some other puzzles....

Time to get creative.

It does not really 'work' 100% due to instancing limitations and no physics funneling, but I did it.

I made it to test my instances and how easy it is to make them work.

I love this backporting! I think this chamber looks nice in p1. Needs some more love in the metal-white-hole department though, there's only a select few.

As the pre-P2-release-"let's remake everything"-a-thon taught us, if that's even remotely possible (which, for the most part [a lot of work] is), you'd have to be prepared for a lot of crashing with the gels.

I think he means remake the p2 chambers in p1, but using only p1 elements. (filling in gel puzzles with fling puzzles instead, for example)

Would make for some interesting puzzles.

Because the Cave Johnson areas clearly can all be done (and are FUN) with fling puzzles everywhere.

Yeah thanks guys. I dunno if I'll do more since most of the a1 puzzles are based off of catapult,(Which I thought was cheep) and panels. Of course, Panels can be replaced with pistons with a little work.

I do wish to make a map using my instances and prefabs in the future. I forgot why I enjoyed Portal mapping, and why I got into it. I missed the reflection of the brown metal in contrast with the cool concrete.

The only down side on using my instances is the box dropper since it can not tell what box got destroyed if there is more then one. However in Portal, there was never more then one dropper anyway. If you want, I may release this mod with all the updated elements to Portal I made, if you want.

I gotta say that it was an awesome feeling that is hard to get in portal 2

My lack of creativity is shining through today. Basic lighting (yay for old prefabs) done.

Great start so far, although the windows are not right at all. Hopefully you replace them. :3

As for my characteristic depressing-yet-true retort, there's no use hoping for it. It will happen.

I like it, but I think the metal hole lighting is a smidgen too bright. Turn the texture scale up slightly.

Danke; I don't know how Reep did his remake, but I personally walk around in the actual map and count tiles and panels. It's probably really inefficient, but it's working.

On a related note to the lighting.. I feel like I'm doing it wrong.

If you want I can whip up some metal hole lighting prefabs and maybe some wall inset prefabs. (I think I already have observation ones)

I was gonna do it anyway, so I can give them to you when finished if you want 'em.

I basically do the same thing if I'm taking a map from Portal to Portal 2 - I take screenshots that show the entirety of a room, usually from the top and two sides and another from an angle that details whatever's important in the room. Since I kind of know all of the Portal rooms by heart, its a little different, but its nice because I can 'count tiles' without having to keep loading the game.

I know how to make them, it's insultingly easy, I just feel like I'm doing a shitty job of lighting the rooms.
