thing is, it goes on forever. there will never be a computer that can ever totally explore its infinite complexity. oddly, unlike many things we are familiar with, the further you go into the mandelbrot fractal, the more complicated it gets, the longer it takes to calculate, and the more interesting it is.

Is there any free software available for rendering fractals? That looks awesome.

I'm told the character in this fellow's avatar is quite popular.

Pros:
Obviously down with the cool kids
Computer game reference
The character itself is quite nicely designed. I like the colour scheme.

Cons
I'm not a big fan of giant pixels. I like mine pixel sized.
Computer game reference
Doesn't really tell me much about the individual himself (whose gender I can only assume from his chosen name)

My avatar is in the process of being christmasified, however feel free to comment on how I've left my halloweenified avatar up for an inappropriately long period.

quite a bit. that movie took a week or two to render. most of the grunt work happens as you get really deep. if you stayed near the outside, you could pretty much draw screens 30fps...

usually they are shareware, and are disabled in some way or another. fractal xtreme is the one i used for that movie. the oldest free one is fractint but i am not sure if they've been keeping up on it. just google 'mandelbrot software" and see what comes up.

Rorschach is a psycho. I like the custom patterns on his face though.

One of these is awesome, and the other is a bit cute but hard to tell if it's ironic or sincerely identifying with the character/game.

A few years ago, I made a set of Mega Man cursors, which I still have somewhere, with all his different poses and an animated one of him running (for "busy"). It's sweet. I'll see if I can find it and post it somewhere.

Oh yeah, and 8-BIT FOREVARRR!!!11!!eleven!1!

Love Megaman. And I'm never going to rate anything...not a big fan of ratings. So suffice to say, it's cool.

About mine: It's an L inside of an O inside of a V, which are the first three letters of my name. I made it in illustrator. I quite like it...been using it for a while.

The 'O' is stretching it but cool none-the-less.

Mine is from a very funny PBF Comic titled Sgt. Grumbles

well i can't help but think of Rene Magritte. and since i love Magritte, i have to give the floating hat over a what could represent a hedge maze (in a stretch) a high rating for all the assumed inside references to puzzles and Surrealism.

Kudos. Did you know that Ren? Magritte was Belgian and not French? His La trahison des images (The Treachery of Images, the one that says "This is not a pipe" in French) is IMO the biggest masterpiece of the 20th century. Simple and profound.

10/10. Nice choice, dude.

Lorithad, is your avatar Viewtiful Joe? I could Google it but I'm too lazy.

Gah, oops. Sorry for double post. I gotta get some sleep. Should I rate my own avatar?

4/10 - geeky reference, not original/funny artwork, enlarged pixels (yuck, as wroth said)

having said that it does have a nice colour scheme
