Shoulder Pain from too much Portal

Has anyone sle experienced this ?
I began playing every mod I could get my hands on . . . up to 8 hours a day . . . and then I noticed my right shoulder started to hurt. Then worse and worse, and now it hurts all night long while I sleep. So bad is the pain that I cannot sleep on my right side.

The pain seems the worst when moving the mouse vertically up and down. Side movements not as bad - but this seems to be an obvious repetitive stress problem. My Sister just had rotator cuff surgery for the same type of pain and that put her into horrific pain for 3 months while recuperating. I hope I am not in the same state she was but her symptoms were identical.

I am really just posting this to see if I am the only one. I never had this problem until Portal, even though I am a computer Tech.

It may be related to the way you are moving the mouse when you play Portal. I am not a doctor, but I strongly suggest you take a break for a while.

It could a genetic thing if your sister had it. I think the fact it started when playing Portal is merely a coincidence. I would see a doctor immediately.

Ergonomics is very important when you are spending large amounts of time on the computer. See how you are positioning yourself in front of the computer and compare it to a safe position for your body, arms, hand etc. http://www.seattlecentral.edu/~ymoh/erg ... nomics.htm

I would suggest you take a break from the computer if the pain is still around, and see a doctor. If you think you are in the right position to be at a computer, you have a reason to be worried and you should see a doctor immediately.

You guys are right. I will go ahead and take a couple weeks off from Portal - and if still a problem then see a Doctor. Thanks a lot.

If it hurts as bad as you describe, go to the doctor immediately!
If there's really something wrong in there, it might get worse the longer you put it off.

(Also a generic ergonomic tip: learn to mouse with your other hand, so you can switch occasionally.)
