Description
Hi, This is going to be my very first game map. I have never made any game maps or anything related to 3D before. Most of you must have played the Peer Review DLC by now. I wanted to release this map before the DLC but I really didn't have time. Well better late than never. The map consists of 2 short and 1 medium length chambers. My map is very less detailed , about 1/10th detail of the maps made by pros here. There is a readme file included for setup instructions. Suggestions, criticisms, trapped areas, not intended solutions , and all other feedback are welcome. I may not have time to fix every minor issue but do specify if you found any(may help me in the future). Also this is the first time I am uploading something online for the public. So I need to know some answers fast even if you like my map or not. 1. Did I upload it right? 2. Does my map run? 3. Do the custom music and material work? Haven't worked on optimizations and will not unless really necessary. Known issues: 1. I am using instances/gameplay/animated_pushout_128.vmf instance provided by Valve. The problem is that when you portal and go through it you see some 'grid lines' on the panel. 2. Skybox cuts a little. 3. portal gun pedestal 'close floor' are black. Well I hope this turns out to be a great map for you all. Steam ID:chimera201 And sorry for my bad english if any. EDIT: Aftermath v0.9 update 1. Fixed bright lighting 2. Fixed exploits in puzzle 2 & 3 Bug: Wheatley says 'alright get moving' if you reach puzzle 1 fast enough

Excellent.Took me over an hour to figure out the laser test and about 10 tries to get the cube in the holder.Maybe put some glass up and use a button like in the first test so it doesnt keep falling down.
Took me a while to figure out the laser puzzle also.
I did not have any trouble with putting the cube in the holder. I set the extra cube above #2 faithplate and grabbed it as I was flying by. In the area with the turrets, I would suggest putting the back 4 behind grates as the first time I played through I just rushed them and got them that way. The second time I did the funnel puzzle and took them out with the laser. Some lighting seemed really bright like the stairway to the observation area and near where you get the portal gun and the exit was a bit long but cool visuals. Nice use of the sound bytes throughout the map. Nice music too. Good Job 5/5
Heh thats different than I did it.I just dropped the cube on the faithplate and shot it around the room lol
Good to know that my map runs and somebody actually found a solution.

I made the whole map in LDR and finally compiled it in HDR. That's why it's bright. Sorry.

I didn't get you. There wasn't supposed to be an extra cube. The cube that you needed to grab was the first one. Maybe you could explain more or post a video.||

Here is the solution I used. I used 4 cubes to trigger the faithplates and set the fifth above #2 as stated before.

4 cubes to trigger the faithplates is right. But how did you set the fifth(didn't understand what you meant) above #2. In the image you provided I think you are at the floor cube button. You activated it using the cube on light bridge that you grabbed while flying. Now you needed to activate the 4th faithplate using the 4 cubes below. Maybe you solved it in a way that I didn't intend. Please reply
I think this is how he had it set up.I tried it and it works.Just 1 portal shot when flying between 1 and 2.This chamber wouldnt be as difficult if the light bridge was moved over near the cube button. The bridge hits the floor cubes alot when trying to set it up
I'm only asking this question because I'm pedantic with grammar:
Did you mean 'Aftermath' (all one word), like the aftermath of an event? or am I actually wrong and you meant to call this 'After Math' like, "after math, there will be geography" ??
Anyway, visuals aren't bad, even in their current state. I liked the puzzle, it took me some time to solve it. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves
...Are you sure this is your first game map? It's fantastic!
Stuff to point out though:
The entrence after you go out in the elevator is way too long, and with out a Portal Gun to shorten your way it looks kinda useless just for Wheatley to talk to you.
The turrets in the 2nd chamber could use some range blockage. You can use the Block LOS texture to block turret's eye sight.
* The map looks kinda like Portal 1, as in just Black & White, but so are Wheatley chambers, but can you add some details, at least?
But in the end, very good map.
@andyb
Yep, thats just how I did it.
@chimera201
I did use the four cubes to trigger the final faithplate. I didnt mention this before because that was the easy part.

I mean't both.
Aftermath-what happened to wheatley after Portal 2
After Math-difficult than Portal 2

Yep. Started learning Hammer in July. The most important thing I learned is that the no. of times Hammer crashes and the no. of times Valve changes stuff by updating are almost same and both are high
But I still like Valve.

||First reason:I do not have time.
Second reason:It's a satellite. Can't make holes or explosions in a satellite. Aperture has very few resources in satellite.
I will add some details like an air vent and cameras, etc||
@all : Thanks for the feedback
I better explain the solution to the third puzzle so that everybody can point out if they cheated at some point against my intended solution.
@andyb,benvent: You can point out better now where am I going wrong
Please play the map atleast once before looking at the solution
Faithplate 1
1. grab the cube from the dropper
2. portal the light bridge so that the cube can redirect the vertical laser activating the 1st faithplate
Faithplate 2
1.Move on to faithplate 1
2.Grab both the cubes above faithplate 2
3. use one cube on floor to redirect one ground laser into the portal
4. use other cube on top of central wall redirecting the laser from above step to activate 2nd faithplate.
Faithplate 3
1. Move on to faithplate 1
2. Grab one cube below faithplate 3
3. redirect the other ground laser into the portal
4. move onto faithplate 1
5. use the other cube to redirect the laser from above step activating 3rd faithplate.
FAithplate 4
1. move onto faithplate 1
2. grab the cube redirecting the vertical laser while in air.
3. place cube on cube floor button
4. portal light bridge on horizontal wall pushout
5. 4 cubes are below. Use one to redirect vertical laser and stack other 3 up to activate 4th faithplate.
Hope everybody solved the first 2 puzzles as per my intended solution
I'd need to see a pic or demo of it before I understand what you mean. The only place i use the vertical was to activate the last faithplate uptop.
My other pic didnt show the setup for the firstplate. This one does. All it requires is to shoot the orange portal at the high panel while going by and it activates number 2 and 3 faithplates. My first run I just dropped the cube on number one and shot it around.benvent put a cube on number 2 to avoid trying to hold it and shoot portals at the same time, thats about the only difference between us
@andyb : I got it. I overlooked this simple possibility. Thanks for the pic.
Just consider that the upper half of the central wall is of metal black texture. Then you should get it. Hope the solution becomes simple now.
The first time I played I tried to use the vertical laser on the light bridge but the laser catcher didn't turn yellow like they usually do and the laser seemed low so I though it didn't work and then forgot to try it again later. I just played through again using your intended solution.
Brilliant map. Loved the last laser puzzle the most, and the vista on earth was great.
Personally I solved the puzzle exactly the way you indicate, it seemed the obvious solution. Not sure how it is possible to do otherwise, though I trust someone will always find alternatives.
This map is amazing, amazing and amazing!

Glad you like it
just played this trough... I must say, i dont have a clue why you called this WIP - its amazing, its one of the better maps i've played in a long time, and the laser puzzle was actually pretty "different". Combine some interesting puzzles with a map with a clear theme and the use of some of the speech in the game.... i cant do nything but give this map a 5/5 great work - looking forward to more of you!
@ bruzag: Thanks.
I might sound silly but where can I find who has rated my map. It would be good if this site has some features like the one on this site:http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=pc&cat=0&year=2011&numrev=4&sort=0&letter=&search=
I was determined to enable the 3 faith plates and go bing-bang-boom to the ledge . . . but after a heroic effort of over and hour, I realized that it was IMPOSSIBLE.
The trick of getting a single cube up there to activate the one, final faith plate was easily done without any lasers or faith plates, by stacking 3 cubes and climbing up. But the trick of jumping up and grabbing a cube at the same time (to be faith-plated over to the ledge) was something I never even knew was possible. The rest was very simple.
Very interesting and challenging - the many lasers, cubes . . . the frustrating "it's not high enough" or "it's too high" . . . and especially "I need more cubes" realizations while aiming lasers kept me busy for quite some time. I never realized all I had to do was forget all that and stack a few cubes!!
