Description

After my first map, Atloss, I decided something a bit more simple would be a good idea. This map features three puzzles using my invention the fizzlerstar. I used this guide by lpfreaky90 for my level design. Thanks! Criticism and feedback welcome - encouraged, even. This is Falconer D. We're done here. Difficulty: Easy. No ninja skills required. Screenshots Changelog 2012/04/10 Bug fixes & element changes. No longer requires awkward positioning. No more unused elements. 2012/04/10 Initial release.

A cool idea I only had a problem with the last room the cube would not fit properly into the hole =( but after about 15 minuets of fiddling with the cube I got it in there and had it stay there!! A nice concept but if you do more of the square ones make sure:
1. That the cube can pass easily by either making it animated dropping and raising the arms in the corners or make the arms themselves smaller by 2 points each.
2. make sure the cube if meant to stay put has enough ledge to do so.
3. If the cube is not meant to be set then use the standard glass thickness.

As for the map itself nice clean design easy to see what I had to do and where it happened.

The idea was fine - the execution was a little tough. Map looked great though - thanks for making!

Nice little chamber you have there. It looked good and you had your own little concept.

I didn't understand why you needed those fizzler things for room 1 and 3 though. I never used them and just portalled through them and placed the ball/cube through the portals.

Room 3: What a doozy. I couldn't do it the intended way because I saw no way of doing it. I tried putting the cube in the hole, stacking the cube on the balls (which what you know kept rolling away), jumping and quickly running at the panel exit... etc etc.
In the end I solved it like this:
7kg4US9qzyM

If that was the intended solution I will smack you! Always get someone to play-test your map.

On that note: I give you a 3/5.

That was the intended solution, chickenmobile (I did get someone to play-test it and they solved it and called me a dick but did not suggest it was bad to have it set up like that). Now that I've had some sleep I think that deliberately unused test elements may not be the best idea. At least, not like that.

I am going to use tonight to think of better ways to show off the fizzlerstar.

This is a great map, but needs some work on the glass, it needs to be a little thicker where the box goes, other than that, its a great map

What the?!?!...

EDIT:
If the playtester said that they thought you were a dick, I would change the puzzle... Just sayin'

Unused test elements confuse the player, make feel they cheated the map I would remove it.
The placement of the cube is very strange too. It makes it unnecessary hard. Just add a bit more space to the back plane and you're fine =D

EDIT 2: Edit your first post; don't change anything but then the links will appear properly in your first post

I will fiddle around and update with something more reasonable.
EDIT: Thanks for the tip on editing. What a strange bug.

map kept me amused for a few minutes

Few issues i found...
Horrific Secrets inside...
Generally floor buttons mean that the thing that it is connected to stays open for the duration of the button pressed for. When you remove the ball, you remove the active state of the button, however the gate remains open. Feels weird.

Your ball droppers (lol) skin on the dispenser doesnt change back from being orange after you press the button. The reflector cube does the animation correctly

I dont know if this was the correct solution to the second room.. i just fizzled the first ball (see first point) And brought it into the second room.. and continued to them play basket ball chucking the first ball through the hoop once it was disarmed :p

Link 1

Once into the 3rd room, i felt like the angles (i may have done it wrong) Just seemed aweful... mainly because it was some serious trial and error to get it working correctly. I noticed the method chickmobile used was now removed, so this was my next logical step to solve it.

Link 2

A part from those... i think it was a relatively different map i enjoyed it enough to give you feedback.

3/5

Thanks for the feedback, Silic. Yes, those were the correct ways to solve the puzzle. I think I will leave it like this and move on as this was my 2nd map ever and more a a proof of concept. That concept is holes that you can shoot portals through, and fit spheres through if a condition is met.

I recorded my blind playthough for you.
Link: Fizzlestar blind playthroughembedded
btMafh7aa0gI haven't watched any other playthroughs yet, so I haven't the foggiest idea if I did anything unintended. But to me the fizzlestar is nothing more than a small fizzler that doesn't look like a fizzler. If it has any special properties that alter puzzle solving, I didn't see them. So this is either a poor demonstration of their function, or just lipstick on a pig. 3/5.

Thanks for the video, KennKong. You solved it as intended. You are right, however that this level does not really display what they are meant to be used for which is a hole that you can shoot portals through and can also be used to move spheres or cubes while they are deactivated but are too small for the player to fit through.

Having read your and others comments, I went back and played it again. So now I do see that you can shoot portals through them. This led me to an exploit, because I solved the puzzle without the second sphere at all. This goes to show that when you change the logical rules of the game, there can be unintended consequences. That doesn't mean that a really tight puzzle couldn't be constructed with this element, only that this demonstration failed to do so. We're certainly no worse off for your trying!

I also had the feeling I could've solved the map with just one sphere. But I did it with two.
Nice map, looks good, proper puzzles, although it was a bit easy.

4/5: great

This was pretty good ^^
It was immediately obvious what to do, which was cool, and it's got a nice clean consistent design but only really let down by the easiness of the puzzles I'd love to see s'more along these lines though ^^

Close enough to the intended solution

I quit.... First 2 rooms a bit buggy but playable.. 3rd room cube stuck in dropper.. put this map in WIP till you get it right....

Szieve, thanks for your feedback. Could you please explain how the first two rooms are buggy and more details on the cube being stuck in the dropper?

sicklebrick! Thanks for the video. I like your solution to the 2nd room puzzle - I was originally going to use that as the intended solution but thought it required too much luck to get it into the hole.

The map is somewhat okay, I wouldn't call it great though.
For some random reason I felt like totally exploiting the last chamber - just because I can
