Ricoshit still comes to mind.
Fix'd.
Seriously, though. My friend was so scarred by that game, he changed the name of the .exe to "communism.exe". He knew if he ever played the game again, the Spirit of Joe McCarthy would decapitate him, so he never dared to.

Ricochet is a multiplayer mod of the popular first-person shooter Half-Life. It was developed by Valve Software and originally released on November 1, 2000.The 1.1.1.0 patch of the game on was later released on June 12, 2002. It is an official mod, and is available through Steam for purchase; however, it is free for those who purchased the retail version of Half-Life prior to the release of Steam.
. BUT: it would be in the spirit of portal. and it would be fun... if for nothing more than a novelty.
example: 2 player co-op. one person controls the blue portal. one controls the orange portal. and you have to solve puzzles together. or else you both fail, and neither of you get
- could you imagine trying to multi-fling when you can only control one portal? or imagine if your friend was an asshole stares at Duffedwaffe Would you like to see my banhammer? -Duffedwaffe and right as you're about to finally finish some hard ass puzzle he orange portals your ass into a fire/poison pit/turret room... lol this shit would be even funnier in a lan-game, as name calling and face punching commences.
i used to make quake mods like this... that were fun-as-hell for lan-play. but couldn't imagine them being fun "online" (example: gold-gun (one-shot-one kill), and i made one once that was like a "race/obstacle course" where you "both" had to run through certain check points and avoid danger, it was fun in person. during a lan game, but woulda been crap online (so i imagine))

i was.... going to fire back.... but.... i promised not to bait you no more

and yes i know you're just having fun. so am i. and yes i know i can edit the post to remove/change what you added... i leave it. cuz like i said. its funny :p
but... since you said you're just having fun... (and not going to report me lol) i'm going to take back my promise... just this one time

NO WAY DUDE! I'M NOT LIKE THAT!
ok... now i'm done.. promise.
I see it fitting for GlaDos just fine making people fight each other in Arena's troughout the Enrichment Centre.
Portal may be about solving puzzles, but a little action into multiplayer cant be bad. It can still stay in the spirit of Portal. Use buttons, cubes and such to infiltrate the enemy. Dodge turrets, use portals to guide rocket turrets to blow up enemies.
There's almost an infite amount of possibilities for Portal Mutliplayer!

gave me a good idea. there are 2 rooms: you cant go to the others room. then you get a portal gun that can only fire orange and he gets blue. then you put a portal on the wall and so do you enemy and thwe rocket turrets in the rooms do the rest
but it would take a long time as the enemy just moves hes portal when a rocket turret is aiming at him... but someone could work on making the level better :s
It would require carefull map design, however, and good balancing. Not giving GLaDOS too much power, but also preventing the player from completing the chamber in 10 seconds.
One player gets an RTS-style view of the map and acts as Zombie Master, spawning zombies and setting traps for players while they run around the map completing various objectives that usually involve some kind of static defense that you get to mob with the shambling dead.

It would also be fun if one player was the subject and the other player GLaDOS, meaning that that player can only look in the chambers through the cameras, but can manipulate all kinds of objects in that room like doors, platforms, placing turrets, (de)activating emancipation grills and the likes. It would require carefull map design, however, and good balancing.
