A single-player map that tests your ability to react and your agility in a sterile environment.

New version still uses contest rules, but also fixes some parts where players were using unorthodox means to complete the test.

To play it:
Copy sp_testcodeg23_1_3.bsp from the zipped folder and paste in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps
Then, in Portal 2 open the console and type "map sp_testcodeg23_1_3" (open the console by pressing the "~" key)

File Name: Test Chamber G23 ver1_3.zip
File Size: 2.36 MiB

Oh and the summary I provided was to fit it in the context of the game. Aesthetically speaking though, I chose to go with cold, sterile, nightmarish lighting because that appeals to me as a horror fan, and as a fan of dark comedies.

I learned a lot from this and I ust want to say thank you for inciting me to learn the Hammer level editor. I want to be a game designer so any notes/feedback will be completely and wholeheartedly appreciated.

Nice map, like the big room style. The puzzle was not complex in the first room, turrets were not even a factor. the second room lacked any direction on where to go little spot out in the goo indicated something was going to happen out there. the only plate not moving was the giveaway. Enjoyed it, thanks for mapping.

Thank you! This was my first map, so I appreciate the feedback, and I actually had some friends play-test it since uploading this version, and they did some interesting things so I know what you mean with the comments on the first room. I have changed the first room, but can I upload this newer version of the map before the contest is over? Or should i just wait a bit 'till the contest ends?

btw with the second room, was it frustratingly ambiguous? or just challenging? I did put a target on the cieling to give a slight hint

Understandable for a beginner, but the giant-box chamber 1 and the hyper-crowded chamber 2 were really clashing against your own intentions.

There is no sense of speed or heights in something that big with no visible reference point: turrets behind 1 kilometer away, does it really matter since they can't see you further than 20 mts? As for the second: both the surprise attack and the dancing panels area could have featured their own room, yet they share the same - no, actually the share 20% of it while the rest is empty. One can't even enjoy the complexity, when passing through takes literally 2 secs.

The second room was meant to be crowded as a surprise trap. The player is meant to feel overwhelmed and forced to react quickly, hence "react" spelled on the wall. I understand and value your opinion though. While playing it, the bigger room's jumps and falls kinda made me and people watching feel excited and nearly nauseous with the sense of speed. And the vastness was kinda the aesthetic i was going for with the lighting and everything (lending itself a cold, sterile quality in that room).

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Also note the video description for more feedback and my signature for additional project information.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECORDING THIS! i love you. i read your youtube description and yeah, i've come to the same conclusion. BUT i am really curious, because you did almost everything in a manner i did not predict, was it fun? Cuz i have a version of the map i made a day or two after this version which limits the options the player has in completing the puzzle in the big room.
there's a faith plate in the acid pit that launches you to the button which you skipped over, but ur method of using the gel was pretty cool to see. i'm worried that method may have been tedious for u though so i can make it so the player can't do what you did there, if what u did felt tedious, but your way of doing things was very interesting and entertaining nonetheless.

Okay, so I fixed all the parts where people were bypassing things, so in turn that may alleviate some of the issues with too much walking around. Though you do have to walk to the door. but that's the only bit of real long-ish walking there is anymore. if anyone else plays it and sees any further issues let me know. The rooms are still the same size and organized the same so don't expect that to change, but if you were exploiting some of the ways to bypass things (like in the youtube video either above or below this post which proved very helpful to me) then another go at the level would still be entertaining.

Yet another small puzzle in a huge room. Nearly invisible faithplates in a sea of goo. 2/5 from me, removed from playlist.
