[SP] A Little Higher
Would love to see this working with one which spurts out orange gel, or even a join orange and blue gel cube... could create an orange path in front of you and the put some blue down at the last minute and jump across great distances all while just running along!
My portal 2 addons directory didn't exist, so I had to create one. It took me a while to figure out that the directory must be at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\addons. Adding the tip that this directory might have to be created would be helpful. Thanks!
I never had a problem cleaning blue gel off the cube. I simply hold right-mouse to spray water while moving forward. It may take a second, but it worked for me. That was only really necessary in the last chamber where it happened a lot for some reason. Of coarse that works best when moving forward on orange gel coated floor, but I got it to work without orange gel too.
@ players having trouble crossing acid pits in chamber 5:
||Once I used the orange gel+ramp to get over to the blue-gel-cube, I backed up enough to get some blue gel on the ground so I could bounce in place while using the gel-cube to coat the walls. That allowed me to get the blue gel high enough to make the wall-to-wall bounce back to the middle of the chamber much easier.
Also, when you are wall-to-wall bouncing, if you get too high and hit a bit of wall above where you spread blue gel, try to hit the jump button as you are falling past the area of wall that is coated in gel.||

I downloaded the 7zip file and it does not contain a map. It does have a large vpk file in it, but I'm sure if that is usable.
The readme file is incorrect.
Place the .vpk in this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\addons
(The addons folder may not exist yet, but you can just create it in the portal2 folder, then put the .vpk in there.)
Place the sp_lightboard_icons.txt file here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\scripts\vscripts\transitions
(This will overwrite the original version of that file, but that shouldn't cause any problems and there's a copy of the original provided if you want to switch it back after playing. This file isn't absolutely necessary anyway since I played the map before I found out the proper folder to put it in.)
This section of the readme is correct:> Quote:

How to play
===========
Once all the files are extracted in its correct place, load up Portal 2. When you are at the main menu, go under "extras" and all
the way at the bottom you will see A Little Higher. Click Play to play A Little Higher.
Or you can launch up the console, and type "map sp_a329_gelcube" without the quotes.

Fixed Alternate solutions in "Bounce Baby, Bounce"
A playerclip is not a fix
. I used a fling to get enough height to jump over the wall, then bounced off some gel on the floor to jump over - and then a playerclip stopped me (I guess you're supposed to be able to get a cube over the wall, but not jump over yourself?). At that point I said "screw you reepblue, my solution is valid" and noclipped past the playerclip. (BTW, if my guess is correct, a laser-death field would do the job just fine. Or glass with a hole big enough to fit a cube, but not the player.)
Other than that everything worked great. I had no problems with accidentally painting the gel cube. The vpk is nice (I liked the automatic transitions between levels and the custom loading screen), although it's somewhat annoying because it overrides my own extras menu which has links to custom maps, so I had to delete it after I was finished.
I'm posting a youtube video now.

A few notes:
The signs didn't work, even though I figured out myself that the file went into the scripts/vscripts/transitions folder. All the signs were blank except for the number 00.
Please don't overwrite the extras.txt file. I'm not mad, because I make backups of all original and modified files, and can easily get mine back. In the future, just add instructions to the readme file to tell people how to add it themselves.
In the 2nd room, I stumbled into an autosave of death. I jumped down from the high button platform onto the low button platform, which bounced me into the water. Then, when the map reloaded, I was falling into the water. I had to restart the level. I have no suggestions for how to fix this.
In the 3rd room, I encountered the same problem Mevious had earlier. The autosave left me with a bridge with no gel, so I could not get back to the blue cube. I suggest a respawn button in the little alcove by the cube dropper for the blue cube.
The one thing that most detracted from my enjoyment of the map was having to paint walls with many, many squirts. That's work, not play.
Even with it's minor flaws, I still give this one 5/5 for the novelty alone.

The download gives me two files, after reading through this topic I put them in:
.\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\scripts\vscripts\transitions\sp_lightboard_icons.txt
and
.\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\addons\a329.vpk
I also tried
.\portal 2\addons\a329.vpk
.\portal 2\portal2\maps\addons\a329.vpk
The map does not show under "Extras", and "map sp_a329_gelcube" gives me the following error:
CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: No such map 'maps/sp_a329_gelcube.bsp'
map load failed: sp_a329_gelcube not found or invalid
Could anyone help me out please?
So I played this via the workshop. The Puzzles could be a bit trickier (for my taste) but I really like that new cube, cute new element.
Thanks guys for spotlighting this. I'll get to work on updating the file with the version that is on the workshop. I'll also release the Sixense Edit with it as well.
EDIT: Done!
Quote:
v2.0
-Added button in "And Over"
-Removed vpk compression
-Removed the extras menu
-Included a "addme" document for sp_lightboards
- Also included the full file.
-Added the Sixense edit. These are not PERFECT, its just something extra I made. Since A Little Higher is
ten times better with it, I decided a while back to make a Sixense version.
-ofcourse, you need the Hydra Sixense motion controller to play it.Known issues:
- And Over lost its elevator screens. This is because the other maps were completed before DLC2, and DLC2 broke things.
