Look familiar? It looks like the graphics Valve used for their Portal 2 trailer ads.
I know why this is being created. Console players feel cheated out of playing custom maps. This allow console players to create custom maps and play each other's maps, just like us PC gamers have done for decades.
Of course, maps created with Hammer have the potential to be far superior. There's a reason why many people still play games exclusively on the PC.

You don't need a dumbed down version of Hammer to make shitty maps
But it helps. If it's so simple a 3 year old can use it, you can bet that you'll see maps made by 3 year olds. I'm not saying 3 year olds can't make good maps but...
... wait
... that's exactly what I'm saying.

Totally agree, do you think hammer maps will be allowed to be uploaded to the community database?

This is probably why they have their rating system in the scripts and game code. If anyone has played Super Meat Boy, you would notice that you can create levels and post them online for anyone to play. I'm guessing the same for Portal 2.
MensaWithPortals.
Meanwhile, I look forward to using it to get the structure of the map laid out before moving it into Hammer with most of the structural work done.

OK, I'll stop making references to Maxis games from now on.

Of course Cube Momentum level in chapter 1.

If I were making it, I would have a list of sixteen or so textures to pick from for walls and ceilings.
Not only that but the texture list should also be separated for textures that can have paint on them and textures that can't have paint on it. (For those that don't know, paint doesn't appear on certain textures when coating the texture with paint)
Also, we're assuming that the new editor will spit out BSP files, and that those files will be shareable and playable across different platforms. We simply do not know these things yet.
Xbox360 release of P2 used different BSPs than the PC version - how will they handle that?
It might not be BSP that is spat out. It might not be a VMF that can be loaded into hammer. How will Compiling work? Will I be able to make underground maps?
As nice and simple as it looks, I suspect it will be locked down rather tight.
This has the potential to go very well or very badly.
One final rant: Is that all we get in DLC2? no more co-op or sp content? JUST an editor?
Sounds useless to me. Console owners could have had their own editor DLC...

I have a terrible feeling that the upcoming DLC will only allow for map creation, downloading and ranking of maps made using THE NEW EDITOR ONLY.
Bingo, I have the same feeling too.
The maps will probably be saved in a flexible file format. It can't be BSP, because how will an in-game editor calculate, visibility, lighting, and geometry? And it can't call the compiler tools because they only work on the Windows platform. I'm not sure about this, but things are going to get a lot more derp around here.
As long as this is not Valves way bypassing on NOT fixing Hammer, I really can care less. However, I feel that the future of the real way to map is kinda on the line here. Also people's intelligence, too.
P.S Only tool textures, vertex textures, and metal grates dont allow paint, all portal 2 wall, ceiling, and floor will allow paint.

Wait ... does this mean that you don't care, or that you do care?
