The ThinkingWithPortals Map Showcasing Thread
A little side project I've been working on since I ran out of ideas for my MapPack. The player is trapped in an Aperture Style Prison Cell and has to find out how to escape the jail cell and the Aperture Building. A new element I'm introducing to this map is obtaining Keycards to access other parts of the building.

Looks great, the edges of the walls seem unusually thick though.

Indeed! Thanks for pointing that out. Valve seem to use walls that are 8 units thick, so I'l stick with that.
Fast compile is fast!

Looking good detail wise. Some of the lighting is a little boring though. (Second screenshot is the biggest culprit here.) Try placing some more color variation by contrasting warm and cool lighting. If you do it right, you can even position the lighting in a way that draws out the important game play elements and details which you want the player to notice, (without having to change any of the layout or add any extra details.) ![]()

Last screenshot has a misaligned texture (side of platform with the door). Other than that, looks nice.
I noticed that before too (and I helped make it) :S
Maybe some fog, or a bit darker would help give a little more atmosphere...
Any suggestions? (It looks a bit empty at the moment.)

If it seems empty it probably uses unneeded space. Maybe make the room smaller? Also, coming from a guy that has never attempted to map in this theme (yours truly) I think you might want to add some breakage and missing parts to the floor and (right) wall.
I do really like the beams of light shooting at every direction from the ceiling, though. Nice lamp placement!
