Windows 8 and Metro UI

Don't start railing on Vista, for once I'm with Jomonay (though I'm reasonably certain he was just trolling) and if you criticize it I'll find you all and kill you in your sleep.Anyway, I haven't had the chance to directly interact with Win8 Metro yet, but I've seen it and it's stupid. MS thinks it's a fantastic idea because everybody wants fun, easy-to-use touch interfaces, which is great, but if you want that, market a separate subOS or something to cater directly to tablet users. You can't neglect the basic OS when you're doing so.
I might upgrade to Win7 at some point, though like I said, I'm pretty happy with Vista.
Windows 7 is pretty much vista sans bugs (with a slightly less cool interface, granted, but I can point you to some visual styles that make it look pretty much exactly the same)
And I wholeheartedly agree, and it seems microsoft has at least taken a hint - I read that windows 7 will still be sold alongside windows 8, with store clerks to tell customers the differences.

That sounds dumb. They should not really call this Windows 8 since this is going to co-exist with 7. Why not just Name it Windows 7 Express or something?

The number is probably more a marketing tactic than anything; 8 is newer than 7, so people who don't know what they're talking about will simply believe that the higher number implies it is the operating system they want to go with.

Heh. Sorry. That one was just too good, I couldn't resist.
(I wasn't really being that serious about it - hence the
- though it's true I'd prefer more textual content than premade images)

I can't
pffff
Looks like Gabe's on my side.
From a talk he did, in a section regarding linux and platform openness:
Gabe Newell wrote:
We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well. It’s a hedging strategy. I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people. If that’s true, then it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality.
It's bscly Windows 7 with a Windows Explorer i don't (want to) understand and that ass of a Metro UI no PC users needs
Windows 8 will be the same no-go for me like Vista, and GabeN saying it's shit just adds more to my antipathy, this guy knows what he's talking 'bout
I don't even know what to say...

White on white, caps in the menus, fucking windows live integration...
This is low even for you, Microsoft.
HORFGLORFBLORFRARAARRGFLORF

Don't need a bucket any more. Got a mop?

Someone should break the bones of the UI developer. Also, what is with that creepy smiley face that stands out in the corner for?

Stand-in avatar, presumably if I was logged into windows live it'd show mine there.

Second: While office 2013 looks butt-ugly, I'm going to admit it actually works pretty smoothly. A lot of things have been given eye-pleasing (if unnecessary) animation, and it's still as robust a suite as it has been.
One thing I was kind of "ugh" about at first but have come to like is the fact that I can save right to skydrive (microsoft's version of Google Drive), I don't even have to have the document touch any folders on my computer.

Yeah

They also broke the rules too, as your only suppose to have 3 colors (that is including black so you can print your logo in plates for spot ink if you needed too) for company logos. Having a product logo also be referenced, similar, or in your company logo is also bad too. Finally, the text is horrible, It looks like they hired a girl from my school who thought she could do art to make that logo.
Ether Microsoft hired some stupid kid off the street, has enough money to print out 5 plates in spot color if they needed too, or the overall rules of logos is changing because of the internet. But really, If I wanted everything pure white, I would go to the OSX platform, I hate this sterile white, can never keep it clean.
Also that skydrive option is neat, at least that is one thing out of a mountain of flaws they did right (Along with that refresh system files feature on Windows 8!)
