The ThinkingWithPortals Map Showcasing Thread

Maybe you should release a WIP for feedback. Pictures can be a little hard to comment on sometimes (even though your picture looks pretty cool) since people only see what's in the map from one perspective.
From your sreenshots, it looks terrible. So you're saying its better than it looks?

Well of course it looks terrible, it's a WIP. It's more of a map that you have to explore and solve problems. I can't release it as a WIP yet because I need 4 more laser-redirection cubes in seperate test chambers, you'll know what it's for if you look at an Aperture logo I made with lasers a while back in this topic.
As for looking at pictures, I'm just saying that it's better to judge a map in-game than through pictures because pictures only give you one perspective of a place, area, etc.
BTW what exactly looked bad in my pictures? I get the feeling you're just trolling if you say the textures are bad, because that's more than obvious.
Also I understand that it is wip but shouldn't you only show wip maps that you have actually had progress on. Looks like you whipped that up in hammer in less then an hour. The other posts show pics of parts of maps that are actually close to completion and are at least plesant to look at.
I suggest looking into some more hammer design tutorials and seeing how to make more appealing maps.

Um, the fact that It basically looks nothing like anything you would see in portal,
Well, that is what I'm going for.

Yes. If he follows the pattern I did, he'll start saying things worth acknowledging in about 4 years' time.
But at least he's straight to the point, honest and helpful in a certain way
Between all these way to nice people afraid of hurting other peoples feelings... he keeps the balance
I am merely expressioning my opinion of laggers maps and of lagger in general. I am not the only one who feels this way about lagger.
And the only real reason I havn't been banned is because I have done nothing wrong. Reread the rules, there is no rule against critisim. If lagger can't take advice then the fate of bad maps from him is all that remains for us.
I recommend a skybox that is like the end of portal
add some hard core test chambers
Make turrets deal super damage
Import custom textures
Sewer water should be a func_water_analog
Use GLaDOS
Add different themes
Surprise at the end
More surprises
Custom props
Custom testing elements

You should NEVER do that. It will make the map frustrating and even less enjoyable.

Would be redundant in portal.

Trivial.

This is beyond laggers "scope".

Yes, criticism technically isn't against the rules, but being so... discrete is not always the best option. When people don't know you personally and can't hear your tone of voice, it just makes you seem like a dick if you always make posts like that.
Also, reread the first post to this thread:

if you're going to provide feedback make it constructive. Don't pull an "OMG thos lazors suck and look ulgy", instead say "Good sir, I do think you might want to align the front of that laser with the wall. Cheerio."
PS. I dont see how wording it differently will make any difference but what ever floats ya boat Bb. If that is your real name.
I realize some people on this website dislike me, but what are they going to do? Type up an insult? Please...
Anyway, I'm going back to my original piece of work that I was going to enter in the Summer Contest, but it would have taken too long to submit an entry. Since I have been experimenting with some new stuff (3D Skyboxs, changes in gravity, etc.), I'm going to submit a WIP in 2-4 days of a space themed tutorial map for a short co-op MapPack. You'll start out without a Portal Gun and must find one in a Storage Room in a spaceship. There is also a special room with low gravity for practicing jumping before reaching the moon (which is exactly 1/6). Of course, here are pictures. 3rd picture is an attempt of making a good sized moon.
