PB is more work on other things, Mapping for it is not a big deal. Trying to recreate the beta style is.

But Support it or not: Will it be nice to have a new kind of portals and models released?

IMO: Portal needs new stuff if it is to keep going.

I blame it on the lack of actual good mapping, and more importantly that Valve hasn't been following up Portal with anything new at all.

Creativity, SDK's, and updates make a game popular, but Valve missed a few steps.

As mappers we could chuck out some crazy ass maps, but it still wouldn't be enough to honestly get Portal back into full swing. That's mainly the reason why I stopped mapping for Portal, and I really enjoyed working with new game mechanics too.

It's just the issue is either a map is too hard and frustrating, or it's just too easy. It's very hard to get something that's in between, especially with something like a whole new game mechanic.

I dont just think it is mapping that has slowly killed Portal, go look at websites like FPSBanana and the download section here. There is a huge lack in custom content because Valve made it so difficult to change and add to Portal.

Then somebody screwed up making a portal only mapping site We should have an eternal silence section

I'm downloading the ES-mod right now. Ahh, space combat... Last time I did that was in Star Wars Battlefront 2, and I don't own the game myself, always played it at a friend...

That being said, who says a Portal map can't be in space? Would be a nice change of enviroment...

Also this community may be map based but you can also put up mods and it is the largest and "most active" portal community.

I'm making a map with a simple puzzle mechanic I've never seen in any other map before.

However im busy with other stuff too, so dont expect anything anytime soon.

I'm working on a map, and unfortunately I'm afraid that it's not gonna get to as many people when it's released as it would have if I just worked my ass off at the beginning and got it done

Double post Anywho, I know that this site is dying and I suggest that if you release anything here, also release it on Portal Game Maps to get the most distribution. This site, yes, is dying.

And as a footnote to my previous post, at the rate my map-pack is moving, it should be just in time for the Portal: 2 hype

This is a pretty subjective statement. TWP has never been a terribly hopping joint, with a trickle of maps coming out. It still sounds like this is the case, and traffic graphs look about how I would expect for a game that's been out over a year with no DLC. Interestingly, overall traffic has been pretty stable for the last three months.

So far the only one saying TWP is dying is you.

I think we need incentives again, like the mapping contests, or a more active community. alas, the portal fan base is not what it once was, and I fear, its reduction in size is bringing this site with it D:

Dont zip it, use 7z or RAR. RAR isnt as good as 7z though.

Also why make it a mod if it is just a map pack?

I actualy agree with portalfan, why make a mod if you aren't changing the source code, a mod has a bigger file size.
